Susan Jakers, born in New York in 1946, is part of the first wave of baby boomers. Growing up at a time when women only stayed at home to raise a family, Susan’s upbringing was radically different. Her mother and grandmother were entrepreneurs and independent women who instilled in her their values and the importance of a healthy body and mind.
As a child, Susan had a weight problem. She tried numerous diets, only to regain the weight. She faced her greatest weight loss challenge after the births of each of her three children. Twelve years of working in the garment industry added pressure to be thin. She was so desperate to lose weight that she became hypoglycemic. A lifetime of frustration over trying to lose weight and keep it off reached a breaking point one day when Susan was 41 years old and realized that she couldn’t walk up two flights of stairs in her own home without getting out of breath. This experience motivated her search for a permanent weight loss method which would also allow her to be physically fit so that as she aged she would stay healthy and remain independent.
An honest investigation of her situation revealed that it wasn’t the food that was causing her weight gain but rather her habits and mental attitude. By learning how to improve her self-image and change her eating and exercise habits, Susan was able to achieve her healthy body, healthy mind goal.
But weight loss was not her only challenge. She had suffered from stress related degenerating headaches over the years. Eventually, over the counter medication no longer sufficed and migraine medication was necessary. Not wanting to be dependent on medication any longer, Susan applied what she knew about mind control and will power from her health and wellness program and eliminated her headaches… and the medication!
Susan has her Health Coach certification from The Health Institute, is a dynamic motivational speaker who has written numerous articles on weight management and stress reduction including The Path, A Guide to Permanent Weight Management and Quick Tips.
Susan has worked in the fitness and private club industry for over 12 years, earning the first Athletic Star Performer Award from ClubCorp International. She received her nutritional education at Mercy College in New York. She makes a point of always being updated with the latest health and wellness information.
Susan finally found the answers she was looking for and in 1996 founded Mind and Body Management to share her program Nat U Thin and help others who have gone through the same frustrations that she had experienced. She has now revised the program to reflect the changing times and to integrate enjoyable activities, specific to each individual. In addition, her original coaching program has been expanded to include an audio program and additional support materials.
Susan has first-hand experience observing a loved one battle weight gain, resulting in diabetes, high blood pressure and failing kidneys. This has left her with a strong conviction to help others reach their goals for a healthy body, healthy mind and to help them maintain their targeted level once they have reached it.
